THE long-suffering residents of Chelford learned in 2014 that the new owners of Chelford Market, Wright Marshall, would be closing it down and moving to Middlewich when its lease expired in 2015, and a silent cheer went up in the village.

Previous to that, in 2010, permission was granted by Cheshire East Council to build 86 homes on the site, and the event was eagerly awaited. Since then, absolutely nothing has happened, except the introduction of a dreadful car boot sale that Wright Marshall operates from the site every Sunday, and which has become an absolute nightmare for nearby residents.

There is non-stop coming and going of vehicles, loud noise and petty crime, not to mention the awful filthy condition the site and surrounding roads are left in afterwards.

Unfortunately, despite making various enquiries, we can’t find out how long we’re expected to put up with this horror.

By contrast, the Eddie Stobart site, on the other side of the village, is soon to be vacated for a Jones Homes new housing development, and it goes to show that where there’s a will, there’s a way, so come on Wright Marshall – get a move on.
