DIFFERING views have been expressed about the Rt Hon George Osborne who became the MP for Tatton in 2001 and has been our representative for 14 years not 17 as stated by Mr Hurrell.

Although having few connections with the north of England and no real home in the constituency George Osborne initially made a good job of listening to his constituents and assisting them with their problems.

However, following his elevation to the role of chancellor of the exchequer in 2010 things changed because George Osborne travels widely throughout the UK and abroad giving him little time to be seen in the constituency.

This is understandable as no one can be in two places at once, but even when he does visit George Osborne never holds surgeries when he could meet those he represents.

Seemingly the venues he does visit are pre-arranged courtesy visits often with no connection to the issues which concern constituents, and they only know he has visited by reading reports in the local press and seeing the accompanying photos.

Therefore the original correspondent is quite right to question what use these visits are to ordinary constituents who would undoubtedly welcome the opportunity to sit down with their representative and discuss the local and national issues which interest them.

Maybe more people would like to offer their, hopefully, unbiased views, on this issue?
