I THOUGHT it might be interesting to look back at some of the Cheshire East and Knutsford town councillors' election manifestos in May.

Here are a couple of quotes....

"We are working with the town council and others to find a solution [to King Street]. Full pedestrianisation is no longer a feasible option. We need to find a way forward which allows for traffic flow, some on-street parking and improvements for those on foot, particularly those with reduced mobility".

The improvement plan for King Street satisfies all these criteria, so why has it been rejected?

"We will put residents first in all our actions"

The decision at the town council actually puts a substantial number of residents’ views firmly in second place behind a very small number of business views.

In addition, Cllr Michael Jones, leader of CEC, is on record as saying the King Street project is "a done deal – so let's get on with it".

A more cynical person than I might say that things are promised before elections and then quickly withdrawn afterwards.
