IN RESPONSE to the story about Cheshire Police not having any black officers.
I honestly see this as a mountain out of a molehill.
Cheshire is very rural. A lot of the local police grew up here and want to make a difference in their local area.
I work in Liverpool and Manchester and those places are so ethnically diverse that, based on percentages alone, you will get more people from minority backgrounds applying to be on the force.
In Cheshire, there are not many people from minority backgrounds and again, working on percentages alone we probably should only have a few people on the force but, when you factor in wages, if I was from a similar background, I’d apply to work in Manchester and Liverpool rather than for the Cheshire force.
The report does not show how many people from a minority live in Cheshire but work on another force, that does not grab a headline, I’d say we have those officers living in Cheshire but commuting into other forces.
Face it, Cheshire just isn’t a really exciting place to police. As a new applicant I’d want excitement and not the plod of chasing loose sheep down a country path.
