PEOPLE against Sugar Tax is a new campaign group that is opposed to the introduction of a sugar tax in the UK.
We all know sugar isn’t healthy, but we have all been eating it for more than 200 years.
We know sugar causes tooth decay. Eating it in large amounts probably does lead to an increase in blood pressure, and therefore heart disease too, but is it the sole cause of the increase in obesity in recent years?
A tax on sugar, if it happens, will affect family budgets, and particularly poorer families. If there was ever a tax on the poor, then this would really be it.
We do not need further government intervention where it could do more harm than good. We also do not need another tax when many families are already struggling with bills as it is.
Over the next few months, we will be taking every opportunity to install some common sense in this unbalanced debate about sugar.
