REGARDING last week’s front page about the AD plant in Twemlow.
The farmer will be disappointed to have his proposal refused by the planning board and the Environment Agency having purchased the ex-MoD site of six 100ft diameter tanks. This form of ‘renewable energy’ is lucrative for operators through subsidies [paid for on our energy bills] but with a very high potential for odours on nearby residents the need for energy should not be used to justify the wrong development in the wrong place.
Notwithstanding the unacceptable impact of such an industrial monster on people living in a rural residential area, if it had been approved land would be taken out of the food production as maize would be grown specifically to feed the digester and shouldn’t food waste be reduced at source or given through charities to those who need it?
