THERE seem to an increasing number of irresponsible dog owners in Knutsford who think that dog leads are only required when walking a dog along a footpath by a road. There are quite a few other instances where the use of a dog lead shouldn't be considered optional.

Firstly when other wildlife is around, even small tame dogs are capable of scaring and injuring animals such as rabbits, squirrels and foxes.

Secondly where there are warning signs about blue green algae. Dogs have died as a result of swimming in water containing blue green algae, yet warning notices at Tatton Park seem to go unnoticed.

Thirdly when your dog has muddy or wet paws. Other people don't want dirty paw marks on their nice clean clothes and when they aren't on leads.

A dog lead can do a lot more than just preventing a dog running in to traffic.
