CYCLEKNUTSFORD would like to say what great news it is to hear that some local women have taken it into their stride to petition for 20mph.

A few years ago our group went around two separate areas of Knutsford, knocking on people's doors asking homeowners if they would like to see a community-enforced 20mph speed limit around the schools and housing estates of Knutsford. A massive 98 per cent agreed they would like to see this.

We, as a group, feel that reducing the speed limit does three massive things.

One; by reducing a vehicle's speed from 30mph to 20mph feels vastly different to a pedestrian and cyclist — after all, the most vulnerable should be the priority (Highway Code).

Two; it increases people's perception of how safe the roads are, therefore increasing people's confidence so they are more willing to take that step to walk or cycle to school/work and the shops.

Three; once a vehicle user has walked/cycled somewhere they then become a better and more considerate driver.

CycleKnutsford has more than 240 members and we can always do with more members. More members mean more clout to support this worthy cause.
