SOME three months ago I and many others emailed Cheshire East Highways Department to report what we believe to be fly-tipping.

We drove to a lay-by on Lapwing Lane, Chelford as we had done for decades only to find someone had dumped tree trunks and telegraph poles on it and also on the grass verges at the side of the lane.

The offender had the large amount of rubbish brought to the lay-by in a large lorry seen by several people.

The lane has bridle ways and footpaths popular with dog walkers and bird watchers who photograph the birds on the lakes.

Our emails were passed from department to department and eventually to Streetscape.

A Cheshire East warden phoned to say that they would take photographs and then remove it.

It is an eyesore on a once pretty country lane.

This morning I had a phone call advising me that it is not fly-tipping so my email has been passed back to the Highways Department who will only remove it if it is blocking access.

So apparently it must be okay for anyone to dump their hedge trimmings, branches etc on lay-bys and roadsides.

We are not impressed.
