I WRITE regarding the letter 'Puffin could cause delays', Guardian, April 8, relating to a puffin crossing being installed on Blackhill Lane.

The person who wrote it seems to have failed to realise that puffin crossings have a 'pre-timed maximum facility' when installed on roads with a speed limit no higher than 30mph.

This is specifically to avoid the type of scenario they describe when traffic flows are high.

How many traffic delays do the puffin crossings on Toft Road cause?

Very few due to the 'pre-timed maximum facility'.

It's not like puffin crossings are so new that they've not been installed on roads like Blackhill Lane before.
