THE article, Guardian, April 1, highlighting an increase in the time that Knutsford patients now wait to see their GPs does not specify whether that means all GPs or just a named GP.

Annandale surgery reserves some appointment slots for patients in need of an emergency appointment, although this might be with any doctor working in the practice.

The other surgeries have their own arrangements to ensure that anyone in urgent need has the opportunity to see or speak to a doctor.

We all rightly assume that we are entitled to be seen by a doctor when we have a health problem.

That is what our NHS is for.

However, a number of appointment slots are wasted by some patients who make appointments and then do not keep them, often failing to cancel them so that others may use the time.

It is not unknown for a patient to ring the surgery early in the morning, be given an emergency appointment for later that morning and then fail to attend.
