THERE are lots of plans for Knutsford schools.

The question is: is anybody joining up the dots to make sure there are enough places, in the right location of the right quality for children today and in the future if house building plans develop?

Regarding Bexton; replacing their current mobiles with a new purpose built building – that’s a no-brainer. But is it that simple?

Why is this consultation muddled with talk of the pre-school nursery being taken over by the school and the entry age being age two, with wraparound 8am-6pm opening?

Knutsford primary schools lack enough places.

The answer so far has been to overcrowd Egerton with a mobile, botch an expansion of Manor Park to one-and-a-half classes per year when its catchment says it can support a full two classes per year and the local authority wading in with a plan to commission a feasibility study on an ‘all age two-19’ campus at the academy.

Moreover, the governing body at Egerton has seemingly agreed to the closure of the school so that it can be relocated close to Bexton, a long way from potential Crosstown and Mobberley families and becoming responsible for crowding out the Lower site at the Academy.

Then there is also the other 'government’ initiative of insisting on free hot meals for infants.

Have there been any practical challenges in delivering this?

Come on, Knutsford – speak up.

The three feasibility studies that should be going on are: 1) Can Manor Park be designed as a two classes per year school? This might mean relocating the Surestart centre and it might mean that the starting age cannot be two.

2) Where can the extra land be bought to set up another primary school? 3) How can the academy ambition for 11-18 education with its community sports fields and the joint-use leisure centre be combined to deliver education and healthy living for all?
