MY faith in human nature was restored last week.

While on a shopping trip to Waitrose in Sandbach, my husband and I decided to have some lunch in the cafe.

The queue was long and everyone waited patiently. The staff as always were courteous and rushed off their feet.

When it came to the turn of the lady in front of me in the queue, she handed over some money and explained that she was paying for some lunch that she and her husband had enjoyed earlier in the day. At the time the till wasn’t working and she was asked to come back later to pay for it.

And to her credit, she did. What’s more she didn’t have the Waitrose card that entitles you to a free drink, so she paid for that and her husband’s too.

How many of us would take the time and trouble to be so honest? I fear not many.
