YOUR article on the closure of Peover Golf Club (Guardian, September 17) fails to mention PGC Ltd was placed into administration on Friday, September 12, and it was the administrators' decision to shut down the golf element of the club.

This has affected more than 200 members, who stand to lose the balance of membership fees paid at the start of the year, as well as any credit on their club payment cards.

I estimate the total sum owing to members is of the order of £70,000.

Peover was one of the best courses in the region and the sole reason for the clubhouse was to serve the members. It is hard to imagine the venue succeeding as a business.

Within 12 months, access from Plumley Moor Road will be barred and there is no suitable alternative access to the Clubhouse.

I imagine the residents of Back Lane will not take too kindly to wedding limousines negotiating the narrow lane and tight bends.

Myself and some of the committee members have had the heartbreaking task of clearing the clubhouse of members’ trophies, honour boards and other equipment.

The clubhouse is now devoid of character and I can’t help thinking future wedding parties will forever be haunted by the ghosts of members past.
