While it may be inconvenient and inconsiderate, parking on Heritage Way or Cotton Shop Yard, as highlighted in the Guardian last week, it is not actually illegal.
One would hope that the introduction of double yellow lines in these areas would solve the problem but don’t be so sure!
The Highway Code states (Rule 238) ‘double yellow lines indicate a prohibition of waiting at any time’. But this rule doesn’t seem to apply in Knutsford after 6pm, when the traffic warden’s duties finish.
Evening visitors to the town seem to be allowed to park anywhere they like, often causing inconvenience on our narrow streets and awkward corners.
If double lines are not considered necessary after 6pm maybe they should be changed to single ones to save paint!
