Although not a resident of Knutsford, I do pass through two or three times a week. Heading towards the Heath there are two blocks of houses all painted the same, on the left hand side.

On one of the houses is a stone tablet which reads something to the effect, ‘the houses were built by the Egerton family in memory of our brave Knutsford lads who lost their lives in the First World War’.

The actual tablet is beginning to wear and is badly in need of some form of restoration.

Could a campaign be started to get money together from local businesses, historical groups, the town council, the British Legion or even individuals to have the work done?

As it is 100 years since the start of that terrible war, it may be that by doing something like this it shows that your lovely little Cheshire town is playing its part. If this was to go ahead, when the work was complete, a re-dedication service could be carried out?

What are your views?

As a non-resident I am prepared to get the ball rolling by donating £100.
