I WAS dismayed to read that Cheshire East was giving away £900,000 of council tax payers’ money when the work it pays for has not yet been done.

Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against good causes, but when the gullies are still blocked after many years – threatening us with floods and a danger to road users – I think it is a joke for them to think that their work is done and they can give our money away.

There are two gullies, one on each side of the road outside the Parkgate Lane Co-Op which are completely blocked with silt and debris, they have been like this for at least two years.

The Cheshire East website says that all gulleys are cleared every year.

The gully which caused the famous flood outside the fire station is in a similar state. There are many other gullies in Knutsford which have also not been maintained for years.

When all the infrastructure of the area is fixed then you may consider that you have a surplus but I don’t see that situation any time soon, road surface and street lighting to name but two.

The financial executive of the film Rob Roy starring Liam Neeson said in an interview, ‘You get no points for not spending the budget and getting a flop of a film’.

Seems like we may have a flop of a council.
