I WAS interested in Clr Olivia Hunter’s enthusiastic endorsement of the proposed BeWILDerwood project at Tatton Park, Guardian, March 26.

However, I can sympathise with her detractors as I found her arguments in defence of BeWILDerwood to be spurious, tendentious and illogical, and furthermore pointing out that Tatton Park is in Mobberley and not Knutsford was mere nit-picking.

BeWILDerwood in Norfolk is not based on a site of special historical interest therefore it’s a moot point as to whether Clr Hunter’s two years’ experience there has any relevance to Tatton Park, where there is already a free play area for children.

Clr Hunter asserts that changes in Sunday trading have, apparently, done away with ‘the family day’ though it is open to question as to whether children may or may not have lost out.

However it is certainly hard to see her logic in that things would change if families had the opportunity to pay upwards of £50 to visit a contrived play facility on Sundays. She also seems unaware that as our area lacks decent public transport, visitors to BeWILDerwood will have to travel by car, which will do little for local fresh air and as a consequence the health and safety of our children.

Furthermore, presumably in an effort to save money, we have seen cutbacks imposed by Cheshire East Council on many vital local services including the closure of our day care centre at Bexton Court.

This week we learn that Knutsford is about to lose its valuable CCTV service as Cheshire East Council say they are unable to fund it. Yet at the same time the council can still come up with millions of pounds to finance a commercial theme park, which many council taxpayers feel to be entirely out of keeping with Tatton Park.
