THE Guardian asks for comments about the service offered on the Mid-Cheshire line – well in a word it is awful.

It is the worst rail service operated on the national rail network.

The journey time to Manchester is woeful. How can a train operator offer a rush hour service from Knutsford to Manchester which takes 64 minutes – the 8.16am? On top of that the carriages are a step up from cattle trucks.

Our MP should be doing something about it, but all he will care about now is pushing through HS2, which will gobble up any cash that might have been available for general transport infrastructure improvement.

While the organisations referred to the article, (Guardian, February 26,) do valuable work, they are whistling in the wind if they think anything will change in the next 20 years, perhaps the carriages.

I do have some comparative experience as I lived in the south for many years and had to put up with the predecessor to the current Southern Franchisor, but it was never as bad as our service.
