I ATTENDED the Cheshire East Council’s Strategic Planning Board meeting on February 5 with Brian Chaplin, organiser and chief spokesman for the South Knutsford’s Residents Group.

One item on the agenda was the Bruntwood outline application for the further development of Booths Hall.

I am pleased to report that Mr Chaplin made strong representation at the meeting on the need for additional safeguards required to mitigate the impact of traffic flows that will result from the development.

Whilst the proposals were unanimously approved by the council all the safeguards, including weight limitations on vehicles travelling along Gough’s Lane, proposed by Mr Chaplin were accepted by the council.

In addition readers should be aware that the councillors for Chelford and High Legh made forceful representations about the current unacceptable state of traffic congestion in Knutsford.

They said that meant further developments planned for approval in the future (eg the Knutsford Town Plan and BeWILDerwood) should address the additional potential traffic problems in rigorous fashion.

My view is that a by-pass must be put back on the agenda.

On a personal note I was extremely disappointed that the three county councillors elected from Knutsford to the Cheshire East Council did not attend the meeting.

I find this unacceptable.
