Clegg charts with spoof apology

Knutsford Guardian: Nick Clegg's pop career is under way after he entered the charts Nick Clegg's pop career is under way after he entered the charts

Nick Clegg's pop career is under way after he entered the charts - going straight in at number 143.

The spoof apology song - Nick Clegg Says I'm Sorry - has entered the top 150 after the Liberal Democrat leader gave permission to the track's creator, satirical website www.thepoke.co.uk, to release it as a single.

The song only went on sale at iTunes on Friday night leaving it at a disadvantage and explaining its low ranking, as the chart's other songs have had since last Sunday to climb their way towards the top.

All profits from the song's success will be given to Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust, of which his wife Miriam is a patron.

Meanwhile, The Script held on to their number one slot despite a late challenge from YouTube sensation Psy.

The Script's track, Hall Of Fame - which features Black Eyed Peas rapper Will.i.am - is number one for a second week, with Example's Say Nothing going straight in at number two.

The top two songs faced stiff competition from Psy's Gangnam Style which climbed 13 places since midweek to land at number three, weeks before its planned UK release date.

Psy is the first South Korean star to make the UK top 10 and the video for the rapper's single has amassed over 253 million views in just two months and has become the most 'liked' video of all time on YouTube.

Gangnam Style was the week's highest climber, up 34 places, and closed the gap on The Script throughout the week and at the final whistle was just 15,000 copies away from the top spot.

Canadian chart throb Justin Bieber enjoyed quite a climb, up 14 places to number 30 with As Long As You Love Me FT Big Sean.
