Chris Moyles said he would be tuning in to Nick Grimshaw's first show
Chris Moyles could make an early return to the airwaves on Radio 1 after he said he might phone new breakfast show host Nick Grimshaw during his first morning on air.
The DJ, who left the flagship show on Friday, is currently rehearsing his role as King Herod in the new production of Jesus Christ Superstar.
Chris said he was glad he could now devote all his time to the musical, which co-stars Tim Minchin and Mel C.
He said: "I'm really lucky that the two things are right next to each other so it's brilliant that I can finish Friday on the radio and then I'm full time rehearsing for this and then we go on tour Friday."
Chris said he was "genuinely really excited" to be doing the show, but "still slightly bemused" about being chosen for the role.
The show starts at the 02 on Friday before going on a nationwide tour.
He also said he would not do any "more radio this year", but would talk to Radio 1 boss Ben Cooper about his future.
He said: "The truth of it is I'm going to do the tour then I'll go for a few beers with Ben from Radio 1 and we'll sit down and talk about what we're going to do or what we're not going to do."
The star said he had listened to stand-in Scott Mills on Monday morning and would tune in to Nick's first show.
He said: "I might text in. I might see if I can get on the air as a caller. I got up early this morning and listened to Scott, I've heard Scott loads of times before when he's filled in. Nick will be fine, he'll be all right, it's a great gig and he'll be brilliant, not as brilliant as me but brilliant none the less."
