Brand gets community service in US
Russell Brand has been given a fine and ordered to perfrom community services following his confrontation with a photographer earlier this year.
The Rock Of Ages star must complete 20 hours of community service and pay a 500 dollar court fee to resolve a misdemeanour charge stemming from the confrontation in New Orleans in March.
Brand did not appear in court in New Orleans on Thursday, but his attorney, Robert Glass, entered a not guilty plea to a charge of criminal damage to property.
Glass said that under a deal with the district attorney's office, the case would be dismissed if the actor provides proof he has completed the service requirement by August 31.
He said he is hopeful Brand may be able to fulfill the requirement through his charitable work with people suffering addictions.
Brand faced a charge of simple criminal damage to property after a photographer accused the comedian of grabbing his iPhone and throwing it through a window.
He grabbed the phone while a photographer was using it to take pictures of him and threw it away, smashing the window of a nearby office.
The British comedian had claimed he took the phone as "a tribute" to Apple boss Steve Jobs who died last year.
He tweeted his fans: "Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iphone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory."
