Clooney 'heading into politics'
George Clooney is reportedly planning to run for office in a bid to become Governor of California.
The Hollywood heartthrob is being rallied by Barack Obama's Democrat party to follow in fellow actor Arnold Schwarzenegger's footsteps, and stand in 2018, according to the Daily Mirror.
George is apparently planning to launch his political career after he marries British human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin, 36, in September. Sources say he has turned down several long-term film projects to free himself up for his new goal.
An insider told the newspaper: "George is hugely popular with the Democrats and where better a place to put him than as the Governor of California, the home of Hollywood.
"It has always been a huge stronghold for the party and one that has a proven record for getting politicians into the Oval office.
"Now that Amal is by his side it has boosted his credentials even higher. "
George, 53, has always expressed strong political interest and rallied for Obama in the 2012 election. He is a fierce human rights campaigner and was once arrested outside the Sudanese Embassy after a planned protest over Darfur.
In his 2011 film The Ides Of March, which he co-wrote, directed and starred in, he plays a presidential candidate running for office.
Asked at the time if he was interested in getting into politics for real, he said: "Is there anything tempting about [politics] if you were to look at it right now? Is there anything that would be tempting about it? Not for me."
