Michael Fassbender has revealed he hopes to come face-to-face with Sir Ian McKellen in the third X-Men film.
The Frank star, who reprises his role as the young Erik Lensherr in X-Men: Days Of Future Past, said he would have liked to share screen time with his elder counterpart in the second film, but remains hopeful that an encounter could occur in the third instalment, Apocalypse.
"I was a little bit disappointed. It would have been fun," he said.
"Being such a huge fan of Sir Ian, I think he's an amazing talent. He comes from a generation that was pretty special, a unique generation where you have to go through repertory theatre. Your apprenticeship was a lot more involved than it would be today.
"And to be this mastership of the English language and its delivery, he's a big inspiration so it would have been nice to have a little moment on screen," he continued, adding: " But maybe the next one!"
Michael hinted his portrayal of Erik will be further away from Sir Ian's, while James McAvoy plans to bring his characterisation of Professor Charles Xavier nearer to Sir Patrick Stewart's portrayal in Apocalypse, which will be released in 2016.
"If he's going to go closer to Sir Patrick's, I'm going to move away from Sir Ian's because that's how we do everything - in opposition," he teased.
