Sir Bob Geldof has reportedly got engaged to long-time girlfriend Jeanne Marine.
The Live Aid star, 62, apparently popped the question to his partner of 18 years following the death of his daughter Peaches Geldof.
Jeanne's friend Jerry Hall told the Daily Mail: "Bob has proposed. She is over the moon. Jeanne Marine has been a rock and a tower of strength over this. I'm so excited for her I am bursting to tell someone.
"Bob and Jeanne have been through hell, but they are determined something positive will come out of it.
"After all the sadness, we need something to focus on which will bring joy and light."
French actress Jeanne apparently told Jerry her news when the supermodel attended Peaches' funeral.
Jerry said: "I've just got back from Texas and accompanied Jeanne to the funeral. It was, of course, terribly sad, but she told me that Bob had asked her to marry him out of the blue.
"I'm so happy for her. It makes you realise we all have to value what we have."
Musician Bob began dating Jeanne, 49, after they met at a dinner party in Paris in 1996.
News of the engagement comes as it emerged that heroin was likely to have played a part in Peaches' death.
The 25-year-old was found dead at her home in Wrotham, Kent on April 7.
At the opening of her inquest on May 1, Detective Chief Inspector Paul Fotheringham, of Kent Police, said recent heroin use "was likely to have played a role" in her death.
The inquest was adjourned for a full hearing to take place on July 23.
