Knutsford Guardian: Benedict Cumberbatch says that Peter Capaldi will make a great Doctor Benedict Cumberbatch says that Peter Capaldi will make a great Doctor

Benedict Cumberbatch has said Peter Capaldi will be a "class act" as the new Time Lord in Doctor Who.

Scottish actor Peter took on the lead role in the hit BBC show at Christmas, and was recently pictured riding a fake horse on the set of the sci-fi series.

Benedict, who starred with Peter in The Fifth Estate, has said that he cannot wait to see what the actor does with the role.

He told The Big Issue: "[It's] great news. I'm very excited to see him in Doctor Who... He is a class act, Peter, and a great actor."

The eighth series of Doctor Who - the first full series to feature Peter in the role - airs later this year with Jenna Coleman as the Doctor's companion Clara.

Sherlock, which shot Benedict to fame, and Doctor Who, previously starring Matt Smith, are both produced by Steven Moffat.
