Britton on post natal depression
Fern Britton has opened up about suffering from post natal depression and said that being fit is very important to her now.
The TV presenter, who is married to chef Phil Vickery, has four children - one with Phil and three from her first marriage.
According to the Daily Mail she told Good Housekeeping: "After I had the children, I had the most horrible postnatal depression and it sort of wrecked my body. I ate too much, I slept too much... I couldn't face doing anything.
"You fall apart physically, and I never want to be there again. Having been very unfit and very overweight, fitness is the kindest thing you can give yourself.
"To be healthy is my duty to my children and to Phil and to myself. I am fitter now than I have ever been, and every year I get more fit."
Of her current weight, Fern said: "I am probably the weight that my body likes to be. It has been smaller, it has been bigger, but it is where it is.
"I love looking at the firmness in the mirror - the firmness and the healthiness. I am the least vain person you could ever meet, but I am vain in terms of my fitness - I want to be fit!"
She also talked about the charity cycle rides she has taken up: "All I know is that my life is enriched by it all. It has given me courage. The courage to leave This Morning, the courage to write novels, the courage to keep having adventures.
"I have become almost fearless. When I started these rides to give something back, I didn't realise they were going to give me so much, too."
Fern added: "I made up my mind to really live my life. I have lived it very well up until now, and I don't want to drift off into 'I don't think I can't stand for very long.' I decided I really wanted to be fit."
