Foster: Hypnotherapy gives me focus

X Factor contestant Tamera Foster has revealed she received help from a hypnotherapist to help her remember song lyrics and focus on her stage performances.

The 16-year-old singer from Kent, the latest act to be booted out of the ITV show after losing in the sing-off to Luke Friend, admitted she sought help from a professional after forgetting the lyrics to songs several times.

" I had hypnotherapy to help me get over that and I didn't let him hypnotise me because I was too scared. So he put me into a deep meditation and that basically got me into a positive mindset and boosted my confidence," she said.

"He tapped into my subconscious so that really helped me out. I think I've really learnt from that. He taught me a few exercises to do before my performances to get me into the zone, so I think I will do those before every performance, because I found on the Saturday, it did help me.

"I had my two performances and I didn't forget a word and I could do the choreography as well," she added.

Tamera, the last in Nicole Scherzinger's Girls group, following the exits of Hannah Barrett and Abi Alton, said she wasn't disappointed about being voted out. Her fate was sealed after the judges' votes were tied, leading to deadlock.

"I didn't really mind going out this week because I'm quite proud of myself for getting to week eight," she said. "Being in the final five out of 16 is a brilliant accomplishment for me. I'm not really beating myself up, thinking much about it."

The singer, who has been romantically linked to fellow X Factor contestant Sam Callahan and One Direction's Niall Horan, teased there may be some truth to the rumours about her and Sam, saying: "Maybe, maybe."

She said the show has introduced her to "some great friends" and she will pursue her performing dream through hard work.

"I love everyone I've met so far, even the crew - they're amazing people. [I can take away] a lot of experience, and hopefully a banging career. That was always the plan. I've always known what I wanted to be so now I've had that amazing platform, I'm going to work even harder than I ever have before to get where I want to be," she added.

"I think one of my highlights was the judges' house, being able to perform Mary J Blige's song to her. That, for me, was a crazy honour. I love her so much, so being able to sing her song to her was just amazing, it was overwhelming."

Tamera, who plans to "ride solo" after entering the competition as a duo, praised mentor Nicole for her advice and support.

"Nicole's like my sister. I can tell her anything and go to her with anything - she's hilarious as everyone knows. She's so humble and down-to-earth. I don't think I could have asked for a better mentor," she said.

"We've been able to spend a lot more time, so we've been able to get to know each other on such a better level than we did before."
