British actresses Juno Temple and Andrea Riseborough lead the way in a female-dominated race for the EE Bafta Rising Star Award 2013.

The Dark Knight Rises actress Juno and W.E.'s Andrea are joined by Elizabeth Olsen and Anna Karenina's Alicia Vikander in the running for the award recognising new talent in the film industry.

Life Of Pi star Suraj Sharma is the only male nominee on the shortlist, selected by a judging panel including Sherlock Holmes actor Benedict Cumberbatch and director Kevin Macdonald.

Juno, 23, was at the nominations launch at Bafta headquarters in London.

She said: "I'm so honoured, truly down to my toes. And I think it's so exciting to be up there with these amazing, amazing young talented actors that are doing such beautiful work. And it's so cool to be part of a British Bafta thing."

In the last year Juno has appeared on screen with Matthew McConaughey in the critically acclaimed Killer Joe and with Kylie Minogue in Jack And Diane, as well as working with Daniel Radcliffe on fantasy film Horns, and with Angelina Jolie on Disney film Maleficent.

She said: "Last year for me was mad. I worked a lot. I played a prostitute, a fairy, a schizophrenic and a dead girl. An array of different roles. So I'm excited for those to come out."

Andrea said: "To even be counted amongst this and the last seven years' rising star nominees feels utterly phenomenal! Bafta nurtures new talent throughout the international film community so I am so very grateful to be given this fantastic opportunity, and look forward to us celebrating the kind recognition together."

Previous winners include James McAvoy, Tom Hardy and Kristen Stewart.

Voting for the winner is now open to the public at ee.co.uk/bafta.
