A COMPANY has terminated its backing of the Mid-Cheshire League's premier individual trophy after 60 years unbroken sponsorship, writes Graham Carter.

EA Clare and Son Limited cited increased competition from rival equipment manufacturers and diminishing support from the region as its reasons for ending its association with the Clare Cup.

League secretary Peter Buckley is now searching for local companies or individuals to sponsor the league and its various trophies.

Interested parties should contact him via the league's website at www.mcsl.demon.co.uk.

League heavyweights Justin Taylor and Stuart Colclough will play the best of five frames for the President's Cup next month.

In Division One this week an unexpected home defeat left Victoria A just two points clear of Owley Wood C.

A convincing away win at Pockets took Owley Wood D to within a point of the Division Two leaders while Division Three pacesetters Hartford A stumbled at lowly Meadowbank.
