Knutsford Football Club must make choice of first team manager

KNUTSFORD footballers have been ordered to report for pre-season practice at different times for two different managers.

First team boss Scott Hardie claims the club’s committee can not decide who they want in charge, leading to two men laying claim to a seat in the dugout at the same time.

“It’s crazy,” he said.

“Certain individuals have decided they don’t want me here any more, but they have failed to tell me they feel that way.”

The Guardian can confirm he has not been sacked, but nobody from the club wanted to comment publicly on Hardie’s version of events when invited.

He says former manager Stewart Dow and ex-chairman Ken Harrison are trying to take over the club, promising to raise funds to see the team through next season.

They want somebody else, thought to be Old Alts Reserves manager Paul Schofield, to take his place.

The duo were at a committee meeting on June 17, to which Hardie was not invited, when a vote decided his fate.

“I couldn’t believe it when I found out,” he said.

“Some people at the club have never met me, nor do they know my plans for next season, so how can they possibly make a judgement on whether I’m the right man for the job?”

Hardie attended a second summit last Thursday, June 25, when he says a second vote annulled the first, ruling it as against the club’s rules.

On Tuesday a note on Reds’ official website said Schofield would take charge of training last night, Wednesday.

But the friendlies listed – against Dukinfield and West Didsbury – are ones fixed up by Hardie.

His profile still features too.

“It’s a right mess,” he said.

“I’ve got the support of the players, including the first team captain, and they want to play for me.

“As far as I’m concerned the first training session is on July 9, I’ll be there and so will last year’s team.

“That’s unless I’m told otherwise [before then].”
