KNUTSFORD rugby ace George Drury has been selected for the England under 16s elite squad.
Drury’s elevation to the top level at his age group places him in the top three scrum halves in the country and he now has every chance of playing in the Four Nations youth tournament in Lyons, France, in April.
The Knutsford 15-year-old, a pupil of Kings’ School, Macclesfield, has been playing rugby since age six and was taught the game by his dad, Tom, who played for Bowdon RUFC.
Now a regular in the King’s first XV, even though he is two years younger than his teammates, Drury said: “My passing, kicking and general play is developing well but I’ve got to work on my vision and awareness of space if I am to achieve my ambition of playing the game at a professional level.”
He added: “I am a big fan of Danny Care at scrum half and Luke McAllister at centre and hope I can bring some of their explosive play into my own game.”
Drury is the second King’s scrum half to make the England side with David Williams, who is now at Cardiff University, also making the top grade.
King’s head of rugby, Andy Rice, said: “George has a tremendous natural talent, he’s a wonderful ball player, but the professional game makes immense physical demands and George knows he will have to train hard to realise his full potential.”
