Arsenal, Liverpool and West Ham have been among the biggest spenders during the summer transfer window while Tottenham and Everton are yet to splash the cash.

Here, Press Association Sport assesses the business done so far ahead of the 2018/19 Premier League season.

Best move

Naby Keita has taken over Steven Gerrard’s number eight shirt at Liverpool and hopes are high on Merseyside that he can reach the heights of their former skipper. Manager Jurgen Klopp agreed a deal for the £50million Guinea midfielder RB Leipzig last year and he already looks worth the wait.

Best bargain

Lucas Torreira, left, looks an excellent addition for Arsenal (Niall Carson/PA)

Lucas Torreira looks precisely the type of player Arsenal have been missing in recent years. The Uruguay midfielder cost a reported £26million from Sampdoria but, at 22, that will seem a snip if he provides the guile, the nous and the bite in the centre of the pitch that new Gunners boss Unai Emery is looking for.

Unknown quantity

Hopes are high on the south coast for Yves Bissouma, the 21-year-old Mali international Brighton boss Chris Hughton has snapped up from Lille. A combative and technically gifted midfielder, Bissouma has been playing regularly in the French league for the past two seasons and agreed a five-year deal with the Seagulls.

Work to do

Toby Alderweireld is expected to leave Tottenham (Adam Davy/PA)

Tottenham’s focus seems to be on the move into their new stadium but they should be active if, as expected, Toby Alderweireld, Mousa Dembele and Danny Rose move on. Crystal Palace, Burnley and Everton are also yet to dip into the market while Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez needs to sell before he can buy.

The jury’s out on…

West Ham, whose owners have spent almost £100million on Felipe Anderson, Issa Diop, Andriy Yarmolenko, Lukasz Fabianski, Fabian Balbuena and Ryan Fredericks, as well as inevitable freebie Jack Wilshere. Expectations have not been this high at the Hammers since they signed Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano – and were subsequently almost relegated.
