POOLE beach volleyball star Zara Dampney and team-mate Shauna Mullin are out of the women's competition after they fell to a straight sets defeat in their lucky loser play-off against Austria at Horse Guards Parade last night.
Cheered on by a raucous home crowd, the pair were unable to keep their hopes of a last-16 place alive as Doris and Stefanie Schwaiger closed out a comprehensive win.
The first set lasted 20 minutes as Mullin and Dampney battled hard to reward the home fans with a spirited display but they were unable to mount a credible challenge in the second as they were manoeuvred around the court by their opponents.
