Kenyon's late strike rescues a point for Black Knights

STUART Kenyon’s last minute leveller rescued a point for Knutsford’s men on their North West Hockey League season bow at home to Formby at the weekend.

The Black Knights had twice trailed by two goals against their guests at Westfield Drive, including a 2-0 deficit at the interval.

Jonny Price halved the hosts’ arrears, only for Formby to restore their advantage soon afterwards.

Goals from Simon Trenbrith and then Kenyon restored parity with time running out.

Knutsford travel next to Springfields this Saturday, push back 1.30pm.

Knutsford’s second string lost 3-2 at relegated City of Manchester thirds in Division Five South, where Richard Jones’ netted the visitors’ first goal.

George Nairn was on target too, punishing a defensive aberration, but it was not enough to avoid defeat for a side that has not played since March.

Promoted Knutsford thirds started life at a higher level with a 2-1 defeat against their Stockport Bramhall counterparts.

The hosts scored first past stand-in shot-stopper Steve Hope, although Knutsford drew level when Henry Pass timed his assist to perfection for Dave Rees to find the net.

There was time enough for the visitors to miss a penalty flick before Bramhall later made safe the points.

In the Cheshire Women’s League, Knutsford’s wait for a first win stretched to three matches after a single goal reverse at home to Wrexham Glyndwr.

The hosts had the best of the play before the break without converting their pressure into goals, and the pattern did not change after half time. However the Welsh outfit claimed the contest’s only goal from a short corner routine midway through the second period.
