Holmes Chapel finally end wait for maximum points

HOLMES Chapel picked a perfect moment to end their wait for a win, bettering neighbours Congleton in South Lancashire & Cheshire Division Three on Saturday.

They came from behind to do it too, trailing 15-0 as their opponents punished mistakes without mercy to run in two tries, converting one, and a penalty.

The men from Station Road put their first points on the board when flanker Tom Chambers bulldozed his way over the line following a catch and drive, Stewart Butters adding the extras.

Congleton led 20-7 when they score d a third try soon after half time before Chapel recovered to pinch the points.

Chambers crossed the whitewash for a second time, then an excellent finish by Tom Lowe brought a move involving Ed O’Hare and Jim Bowbeer to a scoring conclusion.

Butters’ conversion completed a merited 24-20 victory.

Holmes Chapel’s second string lost 43-26 in the return match, played in the North West Intermediate League’s Division Five South.
