Grace grabs gold on court against Cheshire’s best

KNUTSFORD Tennis Club coach Mark Airey hailed a rising star after she claimed two county titles in the same weekend.
His latest protégé, 11-year-old Grace Jones, won four successive matches to win the Cheshire County Junior Closed Championship in her age class at Grappenhall last month.
She teamed up with Rhona Cook to win the U12s girls’ doubles title too.
“Grace is one of the hardest working players I’ve taught,” said Airey.
“She’s improved at an impressive rate too, and is now close to the top of the rankings across Cheshire in her age group.”
Grace, who says she would like to play professionally in the future, first picked up a racket six years ago.
She has been a regular at Knutsford Sports Club, on Mereheath Lane, for the past two.
Airey said: “I have taught two others – Liam Broady and Lana Rush – who have achieved Grace’s dream. She has the same potential as them.
