Captain hopeful fortunes will change

HOLMES Chapel captain Mike Cottam predicts his team’s fortune will change soon despite a third successive defeat at the weekend.

The men from Station Road lost 40-17 at home on Saturday to Rugby Football Union South Lancashire & Cheshire Division Three newcomers Trentham.

“It’s been a difficult start but we’re improving,” said Cottam.

“With more players likely to be available in the coming weeks I’m looking forward to a few selection headaches of a positive kind.”

He hailed Tom Chambers and David Price after they stepped into the front row.

A try and conversion from Stewart Butters, plus a double from Jon Griffin, accounted for Holmes Chapels scores.

They head to Capenhurst next.

Lee Williams’ solo try was a highlight of Knutsford’s 20-5 reverse at home to Prenton in the same section.

He danced past three would-be tacklers to touch down for a depleted Blues, who made the promotion hopefuls work hard for their win at Knutsford Academy.
