TOFT celebrated the defence of their Chapel Press Cheshire County League second XI Premier Division title in style on Saturday.

They were eight-wickets winners at Nantwich to pip closest rivals Didsburyby a single point.

Club chairman Nigel Muirhead (5-10 off 16 overs) applied the brakes to the hosts’ run rate with a fine spell of slow bowling, supported by skipper Paul Ashley (2-28) who ousted danger man Rob Draper (28).

Pete Talbot and David Walters had taken the first wickets to fall as Nantwich were dismissed for 109. Toft needed little more than 20 overs to reach their target, David Blackburn (72no) finishing with a flourish as he plundered a six and three fours from one over. James Needham (23) played a part too.
