11:00am Friday 31st August 2012 in Sport
Crewe 0 Knutsford 1
CHAMPIONS Knutsford lead the way in the Cheshire League after winning their first five matches. Reds recorded back-to-back wins this week against title rivals Eagle Sports and at top tier newcomers Crewe on Saturday to stay ahead of the rest.
The deadlock was broken on 55 minutes when Simon Williamson latched on to a slack back pass before rounding the goalkeeper to open the scoring.
It was the game’s only goal.
Liam Myers jinked into the box after receiving the ball from a short corner and was tripped but no penalty given.
There followed a sequence of pressure with Knutsford camped in the Crewe’s half, hitting the woodwork three timese.
The hosts rode their luck, but Knutsford were unable to force asecond goal to end their resistance.
Lee Shakoor’s hat-trick in midweek did for Eagle, who had lost in the Memorial Cup match at Manchester Road only a fortnight earlier.
Dean Warburton scored Reds’ other goal in a 4-2 success against their Warrington rivals.
