KNUTSFORD driver Oliver Webb’s first taste of oval racing in America ended early during Friday’s Firestone Indy Lights Freedom 100.
He was forced to retire from the action on the fifth lap after contact with a rival of a contest won by Sam Schmidt Motorsports teammate Esteban Guerrieri at the team’s home circuit in Indianapolis.
It leaves rookie Webb, 21, placed eighth in the standings after four rounds of his debut season racing on the other side of the Atlantic.
The series heads next to Detroit, in Michigan, this weekend.
