Final heartbreak

TOFT Tornadoes suffered last minute heartbreak as they lost in the National Christian Cup final against Sheffield-based Killamarsh St Giles.

Locked at 1-1, the two teams expected extra time at Blackburn Rovers’ Ewood Park home before the Knutsford club, representing St John’s Church, conceded a late goal following a free kick.

Earlier Will Berisford-Ince’s penalty had been saved by Killamarsh’s net-minder to keep the scores level, while Toft’s opponents punished a defensive mistake to edge ahead before the break.

Tornadoes levelled through substitute David Lockie, but the 2010 Trophy winners could not conjure a winning goal.

Toft Moore (GK), Edwards, Hassell, Howell, Harrison, Taviner, Baker, Berisford-Ince, Bland, Pearson (Lockie), Conway.
