HOLMES Chapel’s two rugby teams return to action this weekend.
The Station Road club’s second string turn their attention to scoring knockout success as they host Ashton-under-Lyne seconds in the North West Intermediate League’s Raging Bull Plate.
Their round two clash kicks off at 2.15pm.
Gary Cottam’s men head into Saturday’s tie in fine form after winning eight of their past nine league matches, a run that leaves them third in Miller Homes Division Five South.
They were handed a bye in the first round.
Meanwhile Ashton defeated fellow Miller Homes Division Five East outfit Burnage fourths in their Plate opener, running out 29-0 victors.
That success enabled them to forget, albeit briefly, a wretched sequence of league form that saw them lose six from seven going in the winter break.
Indeed, their last match before Christmas was a 66-0 drubbing at Hope Valley.
Holmes Chapel’s firsts resume their league programme on Saturday week when they welcome Isle of Man’s table-toppers and fellow promotion hopefuls Ramsey in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Three, kick off 2.15pm.
But before then the Cheshire RFU Plate semi finalists hope to arrange a friendly for this weekend, opponents still to be confirmed.
