KNUTSFORD preserved their perfect start to the Warrington and District League’s winter season with a derby day win over Northwich Sapphires’ second string.
They ran out 31-6 victors.
From the start Knutsford’s centre court duo of Abi Cocksedge and Fiona Routs proved too quick for their counterparts’ defence, finding the overhead balls into Jenny Blake at goal shooter.
She converted regularly as the table-toppers expanded the goals gap.
The pattern was unchanged after the interval and, although wing defence Sue Shovlin made timely interceptions around the circle’s edge, Sapphires rarely looked like mounting a comeback.
Helena Banfield was picked as Knutsford’s Player of the Match.
There was less luck for Knutsford’s seconds as they went down 21-11 against leaders Warrington Town 3rds in Division Two.
Knutsford put up a fight, but the difference in pace was obvious between the teams.
Eileen Craig earned the vote for star performer for her ability to break up Warrington’s attacking play with well-made interceptions.
