Allan Hopkins wins Knutsford Friday League's Individual Merit

ALLAN Hopkins has been crowned Knutsford Friday League Individual Merit champion.

The Lymm Oughtrington Club man defeated Kath Perks (Knutsford Cons) in the final, using his knowledge of the green to lift the trophy after a 21-14 victory.

“It was a fine final,” said league secretary Alan Perks.

“There were some close ends, but Kath just wasn’t quite able to rediscover the form she had showed to reach the final.”

Earlier Perks had defeated clubmate and defending champion Tim Davies in the semi final.

The holder took an early lead after recovering the handicap, but failed to push home his advantage to allow Kath to go through.

In the bottom half of the draw home players looked to have the upper hand, but Ben Davies played well to give homester Hopkins a tough test before the eventual winner booked his final place.
