TOFT take on each of their rivals for the Cheshire County League title on successive weekends buoyed by winning five of their past seven matches.

That sequence starts with a visit from Premier Division leaders Nantwich on Saturday, from 12.30pm.

The Knutsford side enter the weekend with confidence boosted by a comfortable eight-wicket win at Cheadle last time out, when skipper Jimmy Lomas played a starring role.

He took 4-10 during a five-over spell, including two maidens, as the home team crumbled to 102 all out.

Andrew Jackson (4-42) and Tom Forster (2-30) had made inroads earlier in the innings.

Toft eased to their target inside 20 overs, Henry Hughes (55no) making the most of an opportunity to score a first half-century of the campaign.

Rob Jones (21) and Rob Sehmi (29no) provided support, the latter during an unbroken third-wicket stand worth 39 runs.

Toft’s seconds enjoyed a similarly comfortable afternoon as they cruised to a seven-wicket win over their Macclesfield counterparts after dismissing them for 117.

Will Dunkerley, with 6-35, led the way before Gohar Rashid (2-25), George Muirhead (1-23) and captain Paul Ashley (1-8) finished the job.

Scott Craig (63no) found the boundary 11 times during a winning reply, adding 79 runs together with Mark Leathley (26) for the second wicket.

Meanwhile Toft went down to Neston, the eventual winners, in the semi-finals of the Joseph Holt Brewery second XI T20 at Alderley Edge on Sunday.

They will resume a pursuit of the same opponents, currently 11 points better off, when they travel to title-favourites Nantwich on Saturday.
