TOFT made up for slow start by finishing decisively a meeting with Didsbury in the Cheshire County League last weekend.

The Knutsford outfit’s innings teetered badly at 82-8 before contributions from Joe Gates (28), captain Jimmy Lomas (31no) and Matthew Cornes (35) – the latter duo adding 64 runs together for the final wicket – took their team to 180 all out.

Nick Anderson (5-70) did most of the damage for the visitors to Booth’s Park.

Toft left their worries behind when they took to the field, blowing away their guests for 93 with Andrew Jackson (6-27) and Tom Forster (2-38) combining to match-winning effect.

Cornes (1-24) took the other wicket to fall as the hosts completed an 87-run victory in 22 overs.

It leaves them fourth in the Premier Division table, two points behind third-placed Chester Boughton Hall ahead of them, before they travel to Oulton Park on Saturday, from 12.30pm.

Toft’s seconds were also victorious against their Didsbury counterparts, this time by a 20-run margin.

Archie Phillips (44) was the pick of their batsmen as they put 197-9 on the board after being put in.

An impressive collective effort in the field earned a deserved reward when they dismissed their hosts for 177 in reply.

Nigel Muirhead (4-14) claimed the prize wicket of opener David Tubby (67), while Gohar Rashid (3-22) denied Mark Burns (49) a half-century.

Adam Kenyon, with 2-24, weighed in too.

Oulton Park’s seconds are their guests this weekend.

Toft sit fifth in the standings ahead of their own head-to-head with Oulton Park this weekend.

Will Dunkerley took four wickets, costing a single run, to help Toft’s thirds bowl out Macclesfield fourths for 83 during a five-wicket win on Sunday.
