ROBERT Sehmi hit a record-breaking 173 runs in Toft’s victory over Neston.

The highest score hit by any Toft player, with Rob Jones (70) adding to a fine 144-run third-wicket partnership, put the hosts out of sight.

And their total of 357-9 in 55 overs is the highest score by any Toft team at Booths Park.

From there, it was always going to be a tall order for Neston to gain anything other than a draw.

Guy Reeve, the man who ended Sehmi’s innings, did a good job of hanging around for 73 runs.

But in the end he lacked sufficient support around him and the game was over when Ewan Williams caught him out from Pete Talbot’s delivery.

Rob Jones (4-36) and Matthew Cornes (3-29) did most of the damage as the visitors were rolled over for 163 in the 43rd over.

Toft, third in the ECB Premier League, welcome Marple to Booths Park this weekend.

Meanwhile, Over Peover returned to winning ways at Wellbank Lane.

Asked to field first on a hot afternoon, the bowling attack stuck to its plan and wickets fell regularly.

Only Jordan Carroll offered any real resistance with a dogged 68 before he was last man out in the 36th over with the score on 122.

Rob Jones (5-42) landed another five-wicket haul, while Joe Mitchell (3-37) and Mark Nightingale (2-33) also weighed in.

For the first time in a number of weeks the batting line up supported the bowlers.

Dave Owen and Nythia got the innings off to a breezy start.

Owen (19), Gosling (35*) and Lancaster (36*) saw the home side over the line.
