KNUTSFORD Vikings members proved that they can match the best of the rest from across the region during the Swim England North West Summer Championships.

The club was represented by five swimmers, who had satisfied the entry criteria at previous competitions, and three of them contested at least one final.

“I saw some great performances from our athletes,” said head coach Simon Pickering.

“They had worked hard beforehand, some of them while in the middle of taking major exams at school, and they have remained committed to both revision and training.

“The coaching team is proud of their efforts.”

Abi Comline reached her first regional final in the under 15s girls’ 50m freestyle, and classified inside the top 12 for the same stroke over 100m.

The Knutsford Academy student set lifetime bests in both events.

James Petty reached the under 15s boys’ breaststroke finals over 50m, 100m and 200m for the first time after setting personal bests.

His highest placing was fifth over 100m.

It was a busy schedule too for Daniel Hulme, who competed in five disciplines.

He reached the final in the under 16s boys’ 200m freestyle and 200m individual medley, narrowly missing out on a podium position on both occasions.

In the other events, he improved on previous long-course markers.

Louis Thomas focused his attention on the under 16s boys’ 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly, and climbed the rankings for his age-group category for both after smashing his past long-course best times.

Knutsford’s contingent was completed by debutant Olivia Lloyd-Jones, who swam a strong 50m breaststroke in the under 13s girls’ class.
